ABSTRACT

Uterine rupture is a major cause of perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality, it usually has a devastating outcome if not promptly attended to. The study determined the trends, risk factors, feto-maternal outcomes following uterine rupture as seen at ASYBSH. Method: The study was a retrospective review of cases of uterine rupture managed at the ASYBSH between March 2015 and February 2021. Records of the theatre and labour wards were searched and the folders of patients with uterine rupture were retrieved. Relevant information such as socio-demographic variables, booking status, clinical presentations were retrieved and entered into a structured profoma. Results: Deliveries in the hospital during the period were eleven thousand four hundred and twenty (11,420), out of which one hundred and fifty-six (156) were complicated by uterine rupture giving an overall incidence of 1.36 percent or one in every seventy-four (74) deliveries. Uterine rupture occurred mainly among women of low socio-economic status and high parity. The major predisposing factors were injudicious use of oxytocin (62.8%) prolonged obstructed labour (19.8%), previous caesarean section scar (8.5%), use of misoprostol (5.3%), fundal pressure (2.4%) and unexplained factors (1.2%) Conclusion: Uterine rupture remains a devastating obstetric calamity with a high incidence. Injudicious use of oxytocin, prolonged obstructed labour and previous caesarean section scar were the three leading predisposing factors identified in this study

ABSTRACT

Este artigo propõe relacionar a trajetória e tragédia do mito grego Tântalo às conjunturas históricas, ressaltando o papel de destaque do corpo na construção da sociedade. Se alimenta de referências filosóficas, principalmente de Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche e de Arthur Schopenhauer e literárias de Franz Kafka e Augusto dos Anjos para poder instaurar um olhar sobre o corpo enquanto instrumento reflexivo e, por conseguinte, refém das barbáries corporais e psicológicas na história.


This article proposes to relate the trajectory and tragedy of the Greek myth Tantalus to the historical conjunctures, emphasizing the prominent role of the body in the construction of the society. It feeds on philosophical references, especially from Friedrich Nietzsche and Arthur Schopenhauer and from literary works by Franz Kafka and Augusto dos Anjos, in order to establish a look at the body as a reflexive instrument and, therefore, a hostage to the corporal and psychological barbarism in history.


Este artículo propone relacionar la trayectoria y tragedia del mito griego Tántalo a las coyunturas históricas, resaltando el papel destacado del cuerpo en la construcción de la sociedad. Se alimenta de referencias filosóficas, principalmente de Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche y de Arthur Schopenhauer y literarias de Franz Kafka y Augusto de los Ángeles para poder instaurar una mirada sobre el cuerpo como instrumento reflexivo y, por consiguiente, rehén de las barbarie corporales y psicológicas en la historia.

ABSTRACT

Abstract There is credible evidence that the 1984-Bhopal-methyl isocyanate (MIC)-gas-exposed long-term survivors and their offspring born post-exposure are susceptible to infectious/communicable and non-communicable diseases. Bhopal's COVID-19 fatality rate suggests that the MIC-gas tragedy survivors are at higher risk, owing to a weakened immune system and co-morbidities. This situation emboldened us to ponder over what we know, what we don't, and what we should know about their susceptibility to COVID-19. This article aims at answering these three questions that emerge in the minds of public health officials concerning prevention strategies against COVID-19 and health promotion in the Bhopal MIC-affected population (BMAP). Our views and opinions presented in this article will draw attention to prevent and reduce the consequences of COVID-19 in BMAP. From the perspective of COVID-19 prophylaxis, the high-risk individuals from BMAP with co-morbidities need to be identified through a door-to-door visit to the severely gas-affected regions and advised to maintain good respiratory hygiene, regular intake of immune-boosting diet, and follow healthy lifestyle practices.


Resumo Há evidências plausíveis de que os sobreviventes a longo prazo da exposição a gás de 1984 e isocianato de metila (CIM), em Bhopal, e seus filhos nascidos após esse fato estão suscetíveis a doenças infecciosas/transmissíveis e não transmissíveis. A taxa de fatalidade COVID-19 de Bhopal sugere que os sobreviventes da tragédia do gás MIC estão em maior risco, devido a um sistema imunológico enfraquecido e comorbidades. Essa situação nos encorajou a refletir sobre o que sabemos, o que não sabemos e o que devemos saber sobre a suscetibilidade deles ao COVID-19. Este artigo objetiva responder a essas três perguntas que surgem na mente dos funcionários de saúde pública sobre estratégias de prevenção contra o COVID-19 e promoção da saúde na população afetada pelo Bhopal MIC (BMAP). Nossas visões e opiniões apresentadas neste artigo chamam a atenção para prevenir e reduzir as consequências do COVID-19 no BMAP. Da perspectiva da profilaxia com COVID-19, os indivíduos de alto risco do BMAP com condições comórbidas precisam ser identificados por meio de uma visita de porta em porta nas regiões severamente afetadas por gases e aconselhados a manter uma boa higiene respiratória, ingestão regular de dieta que estimule o sistema imunológico e seguir práticas de estilo de vida saudáveis.

ABSTRACT

O resultado do trabalho de luto da perda de um filho depende muito de como a família está encarando essa perda e de qual o ciclo de vida pelo qual o sistema familiar está passando. A presente pesquisa aborda alguns aspectos teóricos importantes relacionados às observações feitas em dois dias de acompanhamento das atividades da Associação dos Familiares de Vítimas e Sobreviventes da Tragédia de Santa Maria (AVTSM), no município de Santa Maria, estado do Rio Grande do Sul, nos dias 11 e 12 de abril de 2017, bem como procede à análise de conteúdo de seis entrevistas realizadas com mães e pai de vítimas. O trabalho realizado pela AVTSM é de fundamental importância aos pais e às mães que participam, pois, além de proporcionar atividades psicossociais para os membros e fortalece o vínculo coletivo entre eles. Além disso, tais atividades têm caráter terapêutico e incentivam os envolvidos a melhorar e a resgatar a vontade de viver e de se adaptar à realidade cruel que é viver sem seus filhos.(AU)


The outcome from the elaboration of mourning of the loss of a son largely depends on how the family is facing this loss and what life cycle the family system is going through. The present research addresses some important theoretical aspects related to observations made in two days of monitoring from the activities of the Association of Families of Victims and Survivors of the Santa Maria's Tragedy (AVTSM), in the city of Santa Maria, in the Rio Grande do Sul State, on 11 and 12 of April in 2017. Together with the analysis of the content of six interviews made with parents of the victims. The work made by AVTSM is of fundamental importance to mothers and fathers that participate in it, because it not only proportionate psychosocial activities to the members, it also strengthens the collective bond between them. Moreover, these activities have a therapeutic character and encourages the involved to get better and recover the will to live and adapt to the cruel reality that is living without their children.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Mitologia e psicanálise são áreas que se comunicam, considerando em especial o discurso que envolve as questões da angústia e da tragédia da condição humana. Ambas trabalham com a representação de aspectos inconscientes da mente. Neste artigo, desenvolvemos o tema através de uma breve análise do filme Ifigênia, cuja história baseia-se na tragédia grega de mesmo nome. Ifigênia é um filme grego, de 1977, dirigido por Michael Cacoyannis. O filme centra-se na vida trágica de Ifigênia, irmã de Orestes e Electra e filha do rei Agamêmnon - comandante das tropas gregas no cerco de Troia - e da rainha Clitemnestra. Indagamos, com base no conteúdo do filme, se não seríamos todos, em alguma medida, personagens de um mito, convivendo com a tensão de lidar com nossas contradições? A mitologia e a psicanálise se aproximam, assim, por considerarem a angústia como característica da condição humana, que alça, dos escombros, a matéria-prima com que tecemos a arte de viver.


Mythology and Psychoanalysis connect with one another, especially when it comes to their discourse on the issues of the anguish and the tragedy of the human condition. Both Mythology and Psychoanalysis deal with the representation of unconscious aspects of the mind. In this paper, we develop this theme through a brief analysis of the movie Iphigenia, which tells the story of Greek tragedy. Iphigenia is a Greek movie, directed by Michael Cacoyannis. It centers on the tragedy of Iphigenia, the daughter of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra. Agamemnon was the commander of the troops of Troy, and Clytemnestra was Orestes's and Electra's sister. Inspired by the content of the movie, we wonder if we all would not be, to a certain extent, characters of a myth; characters, who live with the tension of dealing with our contradictions. Mythology and Psychoanalysis come close to each other as they understand anguish as typical of the human condition that reveals the raw material with which we weave our lives.


La mitología y el psicoanálisis son áreas que se comunican, especialmente teniendo en cuenta el discurso que envuelve los temas de la angustia y la tragedia de la condición humana. Ambos trabajan con la representación de aspectos inconscientes de la mente. En este artículo, desarrollamos el tema a través de un breve análisis de la película Ifigenia, que narra la historia de la tragedia griega. Ifigenia es una película griega, dirigida por Michael Cacoyannis. La película se centra en la tragedia de Ifigenia, hija del rey Agamenón, comandante de las tropas de Troya, y la reina Clitemnestra, hermana de Orestes y Electra. Nos preguntamos, a partir del contenido de la película, si no somos, en cierta medida, personajes de un mito, viviendo con la tensión de tener lidiar con nuestras contradicciones. La mitología y el psicoanálisis se aproximan cuando consideran a la angustia como una característica de la condición humana que hace resurgir, entre los escombros, la materia prima con la que tejemos el arte de vivir.


La mythologie et la psychanalyse sont des domaines qui se communiquent, étant donné en spécial le discours qui concerne les questions de l'angoisse et de la tragédie de la condition humaine. Les deux travaillent avec la représentation des aspects inconscients de l'esprit. Dans cet article, nous développons ce thème par une brève analyse du film Iphigénie, qui raconte l'histoire de la tragédie grecque. Iphigénie est un film grec, dirigé par Michael Cacoyannis. Le film se fonde sur la tragédie d'Iphigénie, la fille du roi Agamemnon - commandant des troupes de Troie - et de la reine Clytemnestre, sœur d'Oreste et Electre. Nous demandons, à partir du contenu du film, si nous n'étions pas, dans une certaine mesure, des personnages d'un mythe, vivant avec la tension de faire face à nos contradictions. La mythologie et la psychanalyse se rapprochent, en considérant l'angoisse comme une caractéristique de la condition humaine qui hausse des décombres les matières premières avec lesquelles nous tissons l'art de vivre.

ABSTRACT

Este ensaio tem como objetivo apresentar e discutir alguns aspectos do conceito de compaixão na filosofia da chamada Teoria Crítica da Sociedade e na tragédia grega na tentativa de compreender os significados e as formas a ele atribuídos. O intuito é chegar aos aspectos relacionados com a formação social dominante, indagando como se configuram as relações humanas, o processo de sociabilidade e a ideia de experiência. Para essa discussão, o texto está dividido da seguinte forma: será feita uma breve introdução do tema com base em alguns escritos de Horkheimer e Adorno; em seguida, serão discutidas as ambiguidades e contradições atribuídas ao conceito de compaixão; serão apresentados alguns episódios presentes nas tragédias gregas nas quais o sentimento de compaixão aparece. E, finalmente, serão discutidos aspectos relacionados com a formação social dominante no contexto da sociedade de massas.


Cet article a comme but présenter et discuter quelques aspects du concept de compassion dans la philosophie connue comme Théorie Critique de la Société et dans la tragédie grecque en essayant de comprendre les significations et les formes qui lui sont attribuées. La recherche veut arriver aux aspects liés à la formation sociale en demandant comment sont configurés les relations humaines, le processus de sociabilité et l'idée d'expérience. Le texte est présenté en trois parties : 1. une brève introduction au sujet par la philosophie de Max Horkheimer et Theodor Adorno ; 2. ensuite, on discutera des ambiguïtés et contradiction du concept de compassion - ils seront présentés quelques épisodes présents dans la tragédie grecque où le sentiment de compassion apparaît ; 3. à la fin, on traitera des aspects de la formation sociale dans le contexte de la société de masses.


Este ensayo tiene como objetivo presentar y discutir algunos aspectos del concepto de compasión en la filosofía de la Teoría Crítica de la Sociedad y en la tragedia griega, en un intento de comprender los significados y formas que se le atribuyen. El objetivo es llegar a los aspectos relacionados con la formación social dominante, preguntando acerca de cómo se establecen las relaciones humanas, el proceso de la sociabilidad y la idea de la experiencia. El texto se divide de la siguiente manera: una breve introducción del tema basándose en algunos escritos de Horkheimer y Adorno; una discusión de las ambigüedades y contradicciones atribuidas al concepto de compasión y una presentación de algunos episodios en las tragedias griegas en las que se evidencia el sentimiento de la compasión. Finalmente, se discuten los aspectos relacionados con la formación social dominante en el contexto de la sociedad de masas.


This study aims to present and discuss some aspects of the concept of compassion in the philosophy of the Critical Theory of Society and in Greek tragedy, in  an attempt to understand the meanings and forms attributed to it. The aim is to reach the aspects related to the dominant social formation, inquiring about how human relations are configurated, the process of sociability and the idea of experience. The text is divided as follows: a brief introduction of the topic based on some writings by Horkheimen and Adorno; a discussion of the ambiguities and contradictions attributed to the concept of compassion, presenting a few episodes in Greek tragedies in which the feeling of compassion appears. And finally we will discuss the aspects related to the dominant social formation in the context of mass society.

Resumo Este artigo tem como foco as manifestações públicas realizadas por familiares e amigos de vítimas do incêndio da Boate Kiss em Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, atentando para as dimensões emocionais e corporais nelas envolvidas e para as transformações que se processaram com o passar do tempo. Apesar de perceberem o agravamento de seu sofrimento no desdobramento de suas relações com as instituições (Prefeitura, Ministério Público, Câmara dos Vereadores), muitos familiares reorganizaram suas vidas acompanhando o andamento dos processos judiciais e participando de manifestações públicas cujas bandeiras são: para que “não se repita” e para que “os responsáveis paguem pela tragédia”. Através de observação participante, acompanhamento de manifestações e de reportagens sobre a “tragédia”, a pesquisa mostra o trabalho micropolítico das emoções na transformação dos sentidos do acontecimento.


Resumen Este artículo tiene como foco las manifestaciones públicas de los familiares y amigos de las víctimas del incendio ocurrido en la discoteca Kiss en Santa María (Brasil), atendiendo a las dimensiones emocionales y corporales envueltas y a las transformaciones que se dieron con el paso del tiempo. A pesar de percibir el agravamiento de su sufrimiento a partir del despliegue de sus relación con las instituciones (Municipalidad, Ministerio Público, Cámara de Legisladores), muchos familiares reorganizaron sus vidas acompañando el desarrollo de los procesos judiciales y participando de las manifestaciones públicas cuyas banderas son: para "que no se repita" y para que "los responsables paguen por la tragedia". A través de la observación participante, el acompañamiento a las manifestaciones y de reportajes sobre la "tragedia", la investigación muestra el trabajo micropolítico de las emociones en la transformación de los sentidos del acontecimiento.


Abstract The focus of this paper is the public protests organized by family members and friends of the victims of the Kiss Nightclub fire in Santa Maria, Brazil, with special attention given to the protest's emotional and bodily dimensions, as well as to their transformations over time. Even though participants perceived the aggravation of their suffering in the unfolding of their relations with institutions such as City Hall, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and House of Councilors, many reorganized their lives according to their participation in court proceeding sand public demonstrations. The protests' flags declared that such a tragic incident must never repeat itself ("never again"), and that public agents need to be held accountable for their responsibility in the fire ("those responsible must pay for the tragedy”). Through the participant observation of events and the monitoring of media reports about the "tragedy", this research shows the micropolitical work of emotions within the transformation of the meaning of an event.

ABSTRACT

En la tragedia Heracles de Eurípides, el héroe enloquece y mata a su esposa e hijos. La riqueza de la descripción de los síntomas de la locura, junto con el uso de terminología médica, ha generado que se hayan interesado en la obra estudiosos desde la crítica filológica, la medicina y el ámbito psicológico. Por lo cual en el presente artículo presento el cuadro sintomatológico y luego recupero los diagnósticos realizados por diversos autores que van desde la Antigüedad a la actualidad, y también elaboro un diagnóstico en términos psiquiátricos. A continuación determino un diagnóstico psicoanalítico y realizo un estudio comparativo entre Heracles y Schreber, caso analizado por Freud y Lacan, que permite ahondar en la cuestión de la feminización como un rasgo común de la locura en una tragedia del siglo V a. C. y un jurista del siglo XIX.


In Euripides\' tragedy Heracles, the hero goes mad and kills his wife and children. The richness of the description of the symptoms of madness, along with the use of medical terminology, have captured the scholars\' interest in the field of philological criticism, medicine and psychology. Therefore in this article I present a table of symptoms and then recover the diagnoses made by various authors from antiquity to the present times. I also make a diagnosis on psychiatric terms. Then I determine a psychoanalytic diagnosis and make a comparison between Heracles and Schreber -case analyzed by Freud and Lacan- so as to deepen the issue of feminization as a common trait of madness in a tragedy of the V century b. C. and a lawyer of the nineteenth century.

ABSTRACT

Neste artigo, a autora discute a questão do processo criativo em O nascimento da tragédia, descrita por F Nietzsche, quem analisou e revelou os elementos arquetípicos constitutivos do fenômeno trágico - o saber, o apolíneo e o dionisíaco - mas, sobretudo, iluminou a dialética fundamental da criatividade humana. No entanto, ao observar a dialética entre os dois arquétipos, sua análise ultrapassa a questão da criação da tragédia e do processo criativo, sendo transportada para o plano metafísico, dá os fundamentos para a compreensão do processo histórico - vale dizer, a individuação da cultura, bem como a individuação do homem. Este artigo tem como objetivo, ao descrever as ideias fundamentais de Nietzsche em O nascimento da tragédia, mostrar como C. G. Jung absorveu-as na compreensão do processo criativo e da arte, mas, fundamentalmente, mostrar como essa se liga ao processo de individuação.


In this article the author discusses the issue of creative process in The birth of tragedy, described by Nietzsche, who analyzed and revealed the constituent elements of the archetypal tragic phenomenon, namely the apollonian and the dionisyan, illuminating the fundamental dialetic of human creativity. However, when observing the dialetic between the two archetypes his analyses goes beyond the question of the creation of tragedy and the creative process that transposed to the metaphysical level and gives the fundamental basis for the comprehension of the historical process, i.e. of the individuation of both man and culture. This article has the aim to describe Nietzsche's ideas in The birth os tragedy, and how C. G. Jung received them on the comprehension of the creative process and art and exposes how they are connected to the individuation process.

ABSTRACT

Este texto aborda algumas nuanças da tragédia vivida por Antígona, contrapondo-a ao aniquilamento do sujeito contemporâneo operado pelo discurso capitalista, situando assim, para além da Ética que visa um bem segundo um imperativo kantiano, a ética psicanalítica —ética regida pela dialética do desejo, única possível de pautar o analista em sua práxis. Para tanto, se partirá do conceito de Ética exposto por Aristóteles, para então sublinhar o que está em jogo na leitura que Lacan faz da peça sofocliana, destacando no que consiste o caráter trágico da ética psicanalítica, e como esta é relevante para resgatar o sujeito contemporâneo do seu apagamento.


This paper addresses some nuances of the tragedy experienced by Antigone, contrasting it with the annihilation of the contemporary subject operated by the capitalist discourse. It states, beyond the ethics that seeks a good in accordance to the Kantian imperative, the psychoanalytic ethics –an ethics governed by the dialectics of desire, the only one possible to be determined in the analyst's praxis. For this purpose, it starts from Aristotle's concept of Ethics and then it points out what is at stake in Lacan's reading of Sophocles' play. The tragic nature of psychoanalytic ethics is here highlighted along with its relevance to rescue the contemporary subject from deletion.


Cet article aborde quelques nuances de la tragédie vécue par Antigone en les confrontant à l’anéantissement du sujet contemporain, à cause du discours capitaliste. De cette manière, au-delà de l’éthique qui vise un bien selon un impératif Kantien, l’on établit l’éthique psychanalytique, éthique régit par la dialectique du désir, la seule à pouvoir être déterminée par l’analyste dans sa praxis. Pour ce faire, l’on partira du concept d’Éthique exposé par Aristote, pour ensuite mettre en relief l’enjeu dans la lecture faite par Lacan de la pièce de Sophocle, tout en mettant l’accent sur le caractère tragique de l’éthique psychanalytique et la façon dont celle-ci s’avère importante pour sauver le sujet contemporain de sa suppression.

ABSTRACT

Este texto, a partir dos desdobramentos teóricos que o termo afeto (e seu sucedâneo, a angústia) teve no percurso de Freud, tenta estabelecer o caráter de impossibilidade do campo a que ele se remete, e as consequências subjetivas que dele podem advir. No final, propõe uma rápida articulação, como proposta a ser desenvolvida no futuro, entre o que foi discutido e as grandes manifestações de rua, onde um sujeito coletivo pode ser aventado.


This paper, from the theoretical developments that the term affection (and its surrogate, anguish) had in Freud’s work, tries to establish the character of impossibility of the field to which it refers along with the subjective consequences that may arise. Finally, it proposes a quick articulation a proposal to be developed in the future between what has been discussed and the great street manifestations, where a collective subject can be hypothesized.


Basé sur les développements théoriques du terme affection (ainsi que son succédané, l'angoisse) dans le parcours suivi par Freud, cet article essaie d'établir le caractère d'impossibilité du champ auquel il se rapporte, ainsi que les conséquences subjectives qui peuvent en découler. ABSTRACT

A chamada ironia trágica é um traço distintivo do texto sofocleano. Esta característica notável em parte poderia ser atribuída à polissemia intrínseca ao uso elaborado da língua grega, próprio da criação poética. No entanto, o recurso a este expediente, para além da questão estilística, comporta uma dimensão ética uma vez que, ali onde o texto é marcado pela equivocidade, o herói trágico, ao se decidir por determinado sentido, escolhe seu destino. É justamente em virtude desta aporia, inerente à sua condição, que o herói trágico deve (soll) se engajar no ato, partindo de seu desamparo fundamental e não em função do que sabe. Talvez seja isso o que ele tem a ensinar ao sujeito moderno, que é o da psicanálise, foracluído pelo advento da ciência. O desejo se realiza em ato - passant (pas sans) le savoir -, furando o saber constituído e em uma dimensão que é propriamente ética.


The so called Tragic irony is well known as a distinctive feature of Sophocles' text. This remarkable feature could be related to the elaborated use of the Ancient Greek language as well as to its polysemic character. Nevertheless, this use of irony, beyond a stylistic literary resource, involves an ethical dimension. Therefore, when the Sophoclean text could lead to misunderstanding, precisely there the Tragic hero, choosing one sense instead of another, chooses, in fact, his own destiny. It is precisely due to this paradox, which is inherent to his ethos, that the Tragic hero shall (soll) engage himself in action. Act comes out from one's fundamental helplessness (Hilflosigkeit), and not from what one knows. Perhaps this is the lesson that the Tragic hero could teach the Modern subject - who is also psychoanalysis' subject -, foreclosed by the scientific approach. The wish may only be accomplished by an act, breaking through knowledge - passant (pas sans) le savoir - in an ethical dimension.

Na tentativa de investigar as possíveis relações entre psicanálise e tragédia grega, o presente estudo visa buscar aproximações entre as perspectivas estéticas que permeiam estes dois campos, baseando-se para tal na particular estética que compõe a arte trágica e no texto freudiano "Das Unheimliche" O percurso investigativo traçado demonstra que tragédia e psicanálise, ao se assentarem no ambíguo, delatam as faces nada harmônicas do homem, apontando, assim, para uma estética que dá lugar não apenas à harmonia bela, mas também ao horror que a ela se amálgama. Logo, os caminhos que cruzam estes dois discursos indicam a riqueza proporcionada pela interlocução entre si, renovando, desse modo, o seu interesse e sinalizando possíveis desdobramentos teórico-práticos.


In an attempt to research the possible connections between psychoanalysis and Greek tragedy, the present study aims to seek similarities between the aesthetic perspectives which permeate these two fields, basing itself, to this effect, on the particular aesthetics which composes the tragic art and on the Freudian text "Das Unheimliche". The investigative route shows that tragedy and psychoanalysis, due to their ambiguous nature, denounce non-harmonious facets of man, thus pointing to an aesthetics that gives rise not only to beautiful harmony, but also to the horror with which it amalgamates. Therefore, the paths which cross these two discourses point to the wealth offered by the dialogue between them, thereby renewing their interest and signaling potential theoretical and practical developments.


En un intento de investigar la posible relación entre el psicoanálisis y la tragedia griega, este estudio tiene como objetivo encontrar semejanzas entre las perspectivas estéticas que impregnan estos dos campos, utilizando como base para ello a la particular estética que compone el arte trágico y el texto freudiano "Das Unheimliche" La trayectoria de la investigación demuestra que la tragedia y el psicoanálisis, al tener sus bases en lo ambiguo, delatan las caras nada armónicas de los hombres, apuntando de esa forma para una estética que da lugar no sólo a la bella armonía, sino también al horror que en ella se amalgama. Posteriormente, las carreteras que atraviesan estos dos discursos señalan la riqueza que representa el diálogo entre ellos, renovando de esa forma su interés e indicando posibles evoluciones teóricas y prácticas.

Nessa conferência, proferida especialmente pelo autor a convite da Comissão Científica do Colóquio Internacional « A Psicanálise e a Lei ¼1 é abordada a estrutura da tragédia antiga retomada a partir do entendimento que dela faz Claudel, na medida em que destaca a sua dimensão essencialmente vocal. Partindo da definição dada, pelo citado poeta, da tragédia como um « long cri devant une tombe mal fermée ¼, o autor procura dela tirar todas as consequências para pensar as questões referentes à voz e a lei naquilo que diz respeito à clinica psicanalítica. Leva ainda em consideração as contribuições de Nietzsche, acerca do nascimento da tragédia, e de Loraux que também chama a atenção para a dimensão vocal da tragédia, pondo em evidencia sua dimensão política. O tratamento dessas questões levam o autor a formular a hipótese: a instauração e a relação à lei, que é uma das questões essenciais apresentadas pela tragédia, não poderia ser pensada ao redor de sua relação à voz ?


At this conference the author deals with the structure of ancient tragedy based upon the Claudel's comprehantion of it, in what its essentially vocal dimension is highlighted. Based on the definition given by the named poet, the tragedy as a "cri devant une tombe long fermée evil", the author tries to draw all the consequences of it in order to think the issues of voice and the law in what concerns the psychoanalytic clinic. He takes also into consideration the contributions of Nietzsche about the birth of tragedy, and of Loraux, that also draws attention to the vocal dimension of the tragedy and puts in evidence its political dimension. The treatment of these issues lead the author to formulate the hypothesis that the establishment and respect for the law, which is one of the key issues presented by this tragedy, could not be designed in its relationship to the voice?

Context: Survivors of the Bhopal gas disaster still suffer from various respiratory ailments. We examined the effects of exposures among a cross-section of current residents suffering from COPD by ISSR-PCR. Aims: Molecular screening of the gas-affected population of Bhopal with COPD for microsatellite instability due to exposure of MIC. Settings and Design: The isocyanate-exposed population of Bhopal city suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. Materials and Methods: Inter-(SSR) analysis was used to characterize microsatellite instability in 52 MIC victims of Bhopal, suffering from COPD using (CA) 8 RG and (CA) 8 R[Y-Q] primer. Statistical Analysis Used: Association analyses were performed using regression analysis. Results: The study on the MIC-affected population in Bhopal showed weak association between microsatellite instability and age (r = + 0.37); exposure distance from site (r = −0.44); and smoking status(r = + 0.12); while regression analysis of the above parameters displayed supporting evidence. Conclusions: The high prevalence of smoking coupled with aging and poor living habits threatens, to further increase COPD incidences among this population, highlighting the need for enhanced screening efforts.

ABSTRACT

Human biomonitoring has evolved beyond margins to ascertain exposure-response relationship in environmental associated human diseases. As occupational ailments continue to dominate global concerns, biomonitoring strategies have evolved better in terms of evaluating health risks associated with systemic uptake from chronic (long-term) environment exposures. Even though contributions of acute toxic exposures (short-term) towards initiation of disease processes have been gradually recognized, a comprehensive approach delineating mechanistic insights of such an implication remains elusive. Molecular biomonitoring in a strictly selected defined surviving cohort of the infamous Bhopal gas tragedy “as a model”, could provide an unparallel opportunity to discern the long standing implications of acute exposures. Besides comprehending clinical significance of isocyanate toxicity, the results might provide a framework for understanding the molecular repercussions pertaining to a host of other such acute environmental exposures. The investigative strategy might also be helpful in identification of biomarkers with potential for translational research.

Background & objectives: A large numbers of subjects were exposed to the aerosol of methyl isocyanate (MIC) during Bhopal gas disaster and lung was one of the most commonly affected organs. The aim of the present study was to analyze retrospectively the lung function abnormalities among the surviving MIC exposed population (gas victims) and to compare it with the non-MIC exposed (non gas exposed) population. Methods: The spirometry data of both gas victims and non gas exposed population who attended the Bhopal Memorial Hospital & Research Centre for evaluation of their respiratory complaints from August 2001 to December 2009, were retrospectively evaluated and compared. Results: A total 4782 gas victims and 1190 non gas exposed individuals performed spirometry during the study period. Among the gas victims, obstructive pattern was the commonest (50.8%) spirometric abnormality followed by restrictive pattern (13.3%). The increased relative risk of developing restrictive abnormality among gas victims was observed in 20-29 yr age group only (adjusted relative risk: 2.94, P<0.001). Male gas victims were more affected by severe airflow obstruction than females and the overall increased relative risk (1.33 to 1.45, P<0.001) of developing obstructive pattern among gas victims was observed. Interpretation & conclusions: The present study showed that the relative risk for pulmonary function abnormalities in gas victims was significantly more among those who were young at the time of disaster. Increased smoking habit among gas victims might have played an additive effect on predominance of obstructive pattern in spirometry.

ABSTRACT

Currently, the Hooch Tragedy occurred in July 2009 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat, resulting in the death of 136 people from consumption of bootlegged liquor. This was the highest death toll in Gujarat from consuming moonshine since 1989 when 132 people had died in a matter of days in Vadodara. The number of patients admitted in the four hospitals of Ahmedabad-Civil Hospital, V.S. Hospital, LG Hospital and Shardaben Hospital had risen to 276 with nearly 100 needing observation either in ICUs or surgical wards. Embarrassed by the scale of the tragedy in a state where consumption and sale of liquor is officially banned, police swept through Gujarat in search of those, illegally selling home-made liquor. Gujarat is the country's only state where sale and consumption of liquor is banned in deference to Mahatma Gandhi, a Gujarati who was passionately opposed to liquor. This has led to a proliferation of illegal liquor dens, whose home-made brew is mostly consumed by those from low income families who can't afford high priced drinks available outside the state.
